This event was first organized in 1975 to honor the memory of eight Philadelphia Firefighters who lost their lives battling the Gulf Oil Refinery fire on August 17, 1975.  The Memorial Run has continued annually in order to remember all other Philadelphia Firefighters who have died in the line of duty. 

This year marks the 44th Anniversary of the Gulf Oil Fire (Aug 17, 1975).  We are also remembering the following:  40th Anniversary of FF Edward Smedley (April 9, 1977); 35th Anniversary of FF Kenneth M. Gallagher (Aug 14, 1982) and FF Stanley Brown (Aug 16, 1982); 20th Anniversary of LT Terry McElveen and FF James Hynes (Oct 27, 1997); 5th Anniversary of LT Robert Neary and FF Dan Sweeney (Apr 9, 2012). 

Join us for a timed 5K run or 1 mile fun run/walk.  Proceeds benefit the local burn centers in the Philadelphia Area. 

Cost: 5k – $20 before 9/6/19, then $35 afterwards; $5 for 1 mile fun run/walk.

Lisa’s Army is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing comfort to courageous individuals currently undergoing cancer treatments.  After being diagnosed at age 20, amidst her own battle with ovarian cancer, Lisa Loonstyn-Golden launched a crusade in the name of fighters everywhere.  She believed that no one should fight alone, so, with the help of her family and friends, Lisa’s Army was formed.  It is an organization dedicated to comforting men, women, and children with cancer.

The goal of Lisa’s Army is to make a difference in the world just like Lisa was able to accomplish in her short time with us. Now, we continue to fight in her name, and invite you to join our army!  In Lisa’s memory, Lisa’s Army holds the Lisa’s Army 5K Run & Walk every October to raise funds for our signature Comfort Care Packages.  The race brings together families and friends to enjoy the Fall weather in Philadelphia’s beautiful parks.  We have a children’s arts and crafts tent, fundraising competitions, fantastic music, and a photo booth.  This year’s race will take place at Memorial Hall/Please Touch Museum on October 12, 2019.  

The beautiful course starts in front of the Please Touch Museum and winds through Fairmount Park’s Horticultural Center, past the Japanese Tea House, and ends in front of the Please Touch Museum.  Along the route you will see the beautiful colors of ribbons, representing ALL cancers.

The race begins at 8:00 AM.  This is a rain or shine event.  Online race registration will close on October 9, 2019.  You can register on race day beginning at 7:00 AM. 

Cost: Adult – $35; 17 & U – $20.

For over 40 years, the Greater Valley YMCA, Suburban North Branch, has been serving the Catasauqua community.  The goal of the Debbie Linton Memorial 5k event is to remember and capture the energy of Debbie and others who fought a brave battle against breast cancer.  The challenging stretches of hills will showcase the beautiful borough of Catasauqua.  As a tribute to Debbie, the 5K will encompass Alumni Field in Catasauqua.

Schedule – Check-in:  7:00 am; Chip Timed 5K Run: 8:30; Walk: 8:35; Kid’s Color Run 9:30; Awards to follow Kids Color Run in YMCA Gym.  After Race Celebration Picnic: 11 am, free to all runners and walkers or $5.00 for non-race participant.

Medals to top overall Male and Female runners and  top 3 in each age category: 8-14;15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60+.

Cost: 5k run and 1 mile walk – $25 until 10/1, $30 afterwards; Kids Fun Run – Free.

The Frederick Women’s Distance Festival is presented by the Frederick Steeplechasers Running Club. This 5k race for female runners and walkers promotes health and fitness among women of all ages and abilities.
The front of the pack is pretty competitive, but we have plenty of beginners and walkers. Amenities include race-day expo, technical race shirt, swag bag, post-race refreshments, and awards for overall individuals/teams and three-deep in five-year age groups.

The main 5k event is held at 8:00am. The “Little Women 1k Fun Run”, for girls age 13 and under, will be held at 7:30am.

Proceeds benefit the Women’s Giving Circle of Frederick County, assisting local women and children in need.
