The 2nd annual 5-mile Market Street “Run for Blue” Presented by Wawa is Philadelphia’s newest fall tradition. You’ve had a chance to participate in the Broad Street Run, now is your chance to run or walk the Market Street loop, from the Delaware River to the Schuylkill River, in support of the men and women of the Philadelphia Police Department. Start in historic Old City just a stone’s throw from the Delaware River and run 2.5 miles along Market Street to the shadow of 30th Street Station above the mighty Schuylkill River; looping back to the finish line to complete 5 miles. Sign up today to embrace this unique and fun new run or walk experience through a most iconic stretch of Philadelphia’s historic area and Center City’s business district.  Purpose of the Event:  1) The Market Street ‘Run for Blue’ presented by Wawa is a fund-raiser for the Philadelphia Police Foundation and a competitive or fun 5 mile run/walk experience for all participants. To Learn about the important work of the Foundation visit here: www.phillypolicefoundation.org.  2) Positive Public Relations/Community Policing opportunity for the Philadelphia Police Department and the Philadelphia Community including a “Police and Community Family Festival” post-run.  3) Awareness vehicle for the Philadelphia Police Foundation and the work of the Foundation.  The Race will kick off from Front and Dock Streets before looping onto Market Street. The Post-Race Festival will take place at the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing (101 S. Columbus Blvd.) just about 100 yards from where the race will conclude. Ample parking will be available in the Penn’s Landing area and throughout Old City.  Overall Male and Female – Top 3; Age Groups (Top 2 Male/Female recognized in each) – 13-17; 18-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70+.  ROUTE will begin at Front and Dock Streets before looping onto Market. Route will conclude just after intersection of Chestnut and Front Streets on the Aqueduct Road that connects Penn’s Landing and Old City. 97% of the race occurs on Market Street from 2nd to just before 30th Street: This is a 5 mile run/walk. For those walking, the course will close at 9:30 a.m. All paid participants will receive a Market Street ‘Run for Blue’ dri-fit shirt.  Pre-race day Bib and shirt pick up will be available on Friday, Oct. 23 (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.), Saturday, Oct. 24 (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and Sunday morning, Oct. 25 (6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.) will be at the Philadelphia Marriott Old City (Front and Dock Streets.  Schedule: 6:30 a.m. – 7:45 a.m. Pre-Race Music, Day of Registrations, Bib Pick Up and Final Preparations; 7:45 a.m. – Pre-Race Program – Moment of Silence – Police Commissioner/Police Brass Welcome participants; 8:00 a.m. — Race Begins; 9:30 a.m. – Course Closes from West end of Market Street moving East.; 10 a.m. – Entire Course is closed (course open no longer than 2 hours); 9:00 a.m. – 12 Noon – ‘Police and Community Family Festival’ at Great Plaza.  Cost: $40 until 6/12, $45 until 8/1, then $50 through race day.

Live music with a banjo tribute will kick off the race at 8:30 a.m. Both the 5K and 10K runs will start and finish at the Don Gibson Theatre located at 318 South Washington Street in historic Uptown Shelby. The certified course takes you through Uptown Shelby and around the historic 1907 courthouse on the beautiful court square–home of the Earl Scruggs Center. The course then passes historic homes on tree-lined streets and features live music at the 5K/10K split and at various points throughout the course and then returns through Uptown Shelby to cross the finish line back at the Don Gibson Theatre.

Never Forget. The 9/11 Heroes Run unites communities internationally with the goal to never forget the sacrifices of the heroes of September 11th and the wars since: veteran, first responder, civilian and military. Join us to raise awareness and honor the fallen. The 9/11 Heroes Run 5k +1M fun run/walk welcomes runners, ruckers, and walkers of all levels and of all ages. Events take place all over the world, on or near September 11th, and are 100% organized by local community volunteers. It is the perfect opportunity for your community to personally come out and thank your local veterans, their families, and first responders in an annual, fun, and family-friendly environment!

Schedule: 10:00am – Registration/packet pick up (ends at 12:30pm); 1:00pm – 9/11 Heroes Run Ceremony; 1:55pm – Colby Umbrell Fun Run/Walk; 2:00pm – 5k.

At this point, we have a big crowd of runners/walkers/spectators expected and more are arriving every day. Parking will be available at Fonthill Park. Please enter the Park off of Route 313 and volunteers will be happy to direct you to available space. Due to limited parking, please carpool/walk if possible. Parking for our Wheeled Participants: For our wheeled participants, please make sure that when you enter the race site from Route 313 that you tell our parking volunteers that you are a wheeled participant so that they can direct you to your designated parking area. Volunteers will be available to assist you if you should require it.
