Welcome to the 2020 Habitat for Humanity Decades Day 5K Run/Walk. This 5K is organized by students at the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University to raise funds for the Philadelphia Chapter of Habitat for Humanity. The mission of Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia is to transform lives by building quality homes in partnership with families in need and, locally, uniting all Philadelphians around the cause of affordable housing. UPenn’s Habitat for Humanity Chapter helps to fight homelessness in our community and beyond through monthly volunteer builds, ReStore projects, and community outreach events throughout the year. This year’s theme is Decades Day to shine a light on the efforts in affordable housing over the years in Philadelphia and the nation. Please wear your favorite outfits from the 1950s-1990s on race day to show support! The best costume from each decade will win a gift card to a select location! Parking: Street-side parking available or Penn Park: 3100 Lower Walnut Street, Philadelphia PA, 19104. Costume Contest: The best costume from each of the decades from the 1950s-1990s will win a gift card to a select location! If you would like to have your costume be judged, please check in with a volunteer at the registration desk.

Raffle: We will also be holding a raffle for a pair of Beats headphones. By registering for the race, you will earn 5 raffle tickets. And by donating $5 on the Donate page (with or without registering), you will earn 1 raffle ticket — and another raffle ticket for each additional $5 given! Amenities: Each participant will receive a neon-colored race t-shirt (see below!) and Habitat for Humanity wristband. Refreshments, water, and prizes will be provided!

Awards: Prizes will be awarded for 1st and 2nd place finishers as well as for the best decades costumes! Prizes will be distributed at 9:00 AM at the start/finish line of the race (next to Franklin Field, the UPenn football stadium).

Cost: $25 until 4/10, $30 race day; $5 discount for students!

The purpose of this race is to raise money for the three benefices of Aid to South Africa: Mosaic, Nkosi’s Haven, and H.E.L.P Ministries Soup Kitchen. Mosaic is an organization in South Africa that works to end poverty through building up communities and creating jobs. Nkosi’s Haven is also located in South Africa and provides shelter and opportunities to women and children dealing with HIV/ AIDS. H.E.L.P Ministries Soup Kitchen works toward ending hunger in Cape Town, South Africa. Registration begins outside of Ehinger Gym (in between Schmucker Science Center and the People’s Building).

Awards: 18 and under top three runners, adult top 3 runners.

Amenities: Course begins in front of Ehinger Gym on Church Street and does an infinity loop around campus, guaranteed correct size t-shirt if registered before 3/17, refreshments, water stations, gift card prizes for top 3 placing runners. Aid to South Africa event will be held following the 5k, stop by afterward for free food and games!

Entry: $20 before 3/13, $25 before 4/5, $35 at event. Group rate: 5 individuals for $80.

One of the major ways of creating this atmosphere is by eliminating any public by name race results, taking anyway the temptation of comparison. Me.She.We. honors every runner with the same level of celebration, whether you cross the line first or last, and this is acted out by not having any extra awards for our fastest finishers.

Join us at Church Street Brewery on Memorial Day and enjoy some of the best craft brews in the industry.  This race will begin at 10:00 am for all runners/walkers.
