12/08/19 10:00am Sunday This 8.4 mile fall classic follows Philadelphia s most beautiful recreational path around the Schuylkill River. Started in 1972 by Dave Brier of the Jewish Y, this race has been a local favorite “cult” race for 46 years. The course is run on the sidewalk and is self-contained the whole way and free of any traffic. The course passes many historic sites including the Rocky Statue and the Art Museum steps he made famous, the East Falls Bridge, Laurel Hill Cemetery, Strawberry Mansion Bridge, and Boat House Row. The course is almost entirely flat. Proceeds of the event will benefit the development and maintenance of Fairmount Park, specifically the Belmont Plateau Cross Country courses. Philadelphia Athletic Charities is committed to providing for the upkeep of the Belmont Plateau which is used by thousands of cross country runners. Cash awards will go to the overall male and female winners with gift cards for 2nd and 3rd place finishers. Age group awards will be awarded in ten year increments, starting at 19 and under and peaking at 70+. Overall male and female masters will also be awarded. $250 bonuses will be awarded to anyone who breaks the course record (40:08 male / 47:02 female). Custom t-shirts in both women's and men's sizes to the first 550 registrants. New for 2018 - each finisher will get receive an authentic finisher medal! After-party at the Bishop's Collar - first round is on BMRC! Schedule: 8:30am – Registration begins; 10:00am – Race starts; 11:25am – Awards; 11:30am – Party at Bishop’s Collar. Cost: $25 until 9/3, $30 until 10/5, $35 until 11/7, $40 until 12/7, $45 race day.
